Tap into your inner Indiana Jones and take part in this once in a lifetime trek, exploring the beautiful landscapes and ancient ruins of Angkor Wat (one of the most renowned UNESCO world heritage sites in South East Asia), while raising money to support young people from low-income backgrounds into work.
The small country of Cambodia is home to dazzling green rice-paddies and jungles dotted with temples and ruins, villages of thatched stilted houses, and small towns where Buddhist temples nestle amongst graceful French colonial buildings. Our challenge starts in Siem Reap, ideally situated to explore the ancient capital of the mighty Khmer Empire. We trek hills, valleys and dense forests of the surrounding area ascending to the upper plain of Kulen Mountain. This region is rich not only in history, but in beautiful landscapes and the rural way of life little changed for centuries. Our trekking challenge will be hot and dusty and will see you trek between 76-94km, but the famous smiles of this remarkably friendly country will carry us on to our finish point at Angkor Wat.
This is an amazing chance to not only challenge yourself , but to fundraise! This will enable EY Foundation to work directly with young people facing barriers to employment and with employers and social entrepreneurs in the UK to create and support routes into education, employment and enterprise.
EY Foundation are running this trek in partnership with highly experienced adventure tourism company, Global Adventure Challenges (GAC). They have over 20 years of experience, have lots of high profile clients and have run successful Angkor Wat treks on several occasions.
The trek itself takes place over five days and covers a distance between 76-94km. You'll be heading through varying terrains of valleys, hills and dense forests, whilst experiencing the tropical climate that Cambodia has to offer.
Each participant will have a fundraising target (stipulated below) – all of which will go towards helping the EY Foundation tackle barriers to employment faced by young people from low-income backgrounds and through our programmes, help them unlock their potential and succeed in the workplace.
In November, I took on a five-day charity challenge to trek 100km through the Sahara Desert. I wanted to take part in a charity trek so I could challenge myself in a new environment whilst also raising money for such an important cause - to support young people from low-income backgrounds get the chance they deserve to succeed in the workplace
