In October 2023 we held our annual Impact Awards, recognising the impact of our supporters across the last 12 months. Our superb hosts, Omama and Ruqayyah – who have both taken part in our programmes – describe the event and their experience presenting to 500+ attendees! 

Omama: 

I felt delighted to have presented the 2023 Impact Awards as I love to appreciate people who have made a significant difference in our society.

It was an amazing experience presenting the awards and being a co-host. The part that I enjoyed most was the video which showcased the work of EY Foundation in the last 12 months, supporting over 2,900 young people, which is incredible as young people from low-income backgrounds have limited opportunities available to them.

I have further gained more confidence and presentation skills and I can confidently say that I would want to do something similar again as I'm fascinated by the experience. 

With presenting the awards, I have gained wider knowledge about the Foundation’s work and the support it provides to young people as they enter the working world. 

Ruqayyah:

I'm extremely grateful for the incredible opportunity to present at the Impact Awards. It's an experience that I will always cherish. At first, I was filled with nerves about presenting, but because the profession I'm applying for values confidence, I decided to face my fears head-on. Despite a minor slip-up at the end due to nerves, I was able to handle it well. I can't express enough how thankful I am for this valuable experience.

I was amazed by the incredible teamwork I witnessed at the event. It felt like a well-coordinated performance, just like a multi-disciplinary team. Each person played a crucial role in ensuring the award show ran smoothly. From the organisers to the hosts, everyone's contribution was essential. This experience taught me the value of collaboration and how it can lead to success. Despite my initial nervousness during rehearsals, the support and unity of the team helped boost my confidence during the live show.

The EY Foundation is an exceptional organisation that provides opportunities and insights to individuals from underprivileged backgrounds. At the awards, there were many speakers and winners who offered support and encouragement, showing that success is possible despite obstacles. I find this incredibly inspiring and helpful, especially since I have high aspirations. With the assistance of the EY Foundation and their supportive team, I am confident that I will achieve my dreams.

I absolutely love working with the EY Foundation! The opportunities and insights they provide are invaluable. I am grateful for the chance to be a part of such an incredible organisation as well as working with such a dedicated and caring team - it has been an incredible experience. The support at EY Foundation has been instrumental in my growth and success. I am definitely looking forward to signing up for more opportunities and to continue collaborating with them in the future.
